Lisa Palombo's art is about as low tech as you can get. She paints richly-colored florals, landscapes and still lifes on canvas, just as artists have done for centuries. But the Caldwell artist has brought her work into the 21st century-- by sharing it on her blog. She's one of the growing number of professional artists/ bloggers. The blog she started last year-- Lisa Palombo's Floral Paintings-- includes samples of her art, news from her studio and how-to advice on art related topics, including how to hang paintings in groups. If you'd like to meet the artist/blogger in person, she's holding her annual Spring Open Studio May 3 and 4 in Caldwell.

Dr. John signs Lisa's offical 2007 poster at First Night Monclair, December 31,2006. First Night Montclair and the Performing Arts series
I was asked to create the official image for First Night Montclair 2007 - an annual community-based New Year's Eve event celebrated throughout the U.S. The theme for this year's event featured a montage of dance, music, art and other diverse cultural activities for all ages.
While researching the history of the event and the various elements I wanted to include in the painting, I quickly realized there was so much more I wanted to capture than just one painting. And so, The Performing Arts collection was born. I quickly began to collect, photograph and borrow objects that represent the performing arts, such as Flamenco Spanish fans and shawls, ballet toe shoes, librettos, opera masks and violin. I even went on location to shoot a baby grand piano.
I wanted the painting entitled, "First Night," to be an allegory of the evening. For example, the Flamenco fan that I chose was designed for Spanish artist, Frida Khalo. The candle lit represents the first day of the year. The white rose represents new beginnings. The violin and librettos were symbolic of music. And, the ballet toe shoes of dance.
"First Night" will be used to help promote the event through a collectable poster, brochure and tickets. Dr. John, the famous New Orleans jazz musician, will be the headliner. Additional performances will be held by the NJ ballet, NJ Pops and the Flamenco Ole dancers as well as other local and national talent. The collectable poster will be available in December, 2006.
A special thanks to
all those who loaned me their precious objects and props I used
throughout the new series. I hope you enjoy the paintings as much
as I enjoyed bringing them to life.

LISA PALOMBO announced as officail artist for the NJ Balloon Festival Festival VP Ken Stats, Lisa Palombo, Governor James E. McGreevey and Children's Miracle Network Executive Director Bill Tawpash.
QUICK CHEK BALLOON FEST ARTWORK
FEATURED ON ARIZONA ICED TEA CANSAriZona Iced Tea will sell decorative cans featuring poster art of the largest summertime hot air balloon festival in North America in a cooperative marketing effort this summer.
The Lake Success, Long Island-based beverage maker will sell the commemorative cans at over 100 Quick Chek Food Stores throughout New Jersey, where the Festival is a July institution attracting some 150,000 people.
The artwork depicted on the cans is an original oil painting of the bucolic New Jersey countryside dotted with hot air balloons. The artist is Lisa Palombo, a nationally known creator of impressionistic landscape, floral and still life oil paintings.
The image, entitled "A Perfect Summer Day," also graces the event's official poster, which annually appears on billboards, storefronts, newspapers and television, workplace bulletin boards and basement playrooms across New Jersey. The poster is also a vehicle to raise money for Children's Miracle Network (CMN), since a portion of every ticket sold at Quick Check Food Stores benefits both the Specialized Hospital and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.
"When we saw the piece, it was an easy decision," said Richard Parano, Director of Convenience and Petroleum, AriZona Iced Tea. "This can will be an immediate collectors item and its distinct look will help sales."
"This year, the poster is special and features a traditional solute to the 'Magic of Ballooning,'" said Howard Freeman, Executive Producer of the Festival. "Governor McGreevey unveiled it at the Statehouse and now it will be part of the Quick Chek customer experience."
Born at a truck stop on Route 78 in 1979 prior to moving to its current location in 1983, the Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, In Association With PNC Bank, now draws over 150,000 people from 31 states to Solberg Airport in Hunterdon County to see the ascension of 125 gigantic hot air balloons, major concert performers and hundreds of other family-oriented attractions.
The dates for the 2004 event are July 23-25. Further information can be obtained by calling
