Contemporary American Impressionist Lisa Palombo began her formal art education at the age of nine while spending summers at the acclaimed Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She later graduated from RISD with honors. She also completed graduate studies in Fine Art at the European Honors Program in Rome, Italy.
Palombo produces magical florals, still lifes and landscapes in a unique style that is unmistakable in her expressive brushwork and fearless use of color. She is considered a master of color and the natural form. Palombo not only paints, but also regularly blogs and speaks at public venues. Her work has been featured on more than 40 book covers, including several New York Times bestsellers as well as showcased in Art & Antiques Magazine, Southern Living, The Artist's Magazine, American Art Review and a Columbia Pictures movie, The Bounty Hunter.
Palombo is listed in the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C., and the Marquis Who's Who in American Art. Her paintings are featured in the books The Best of Oil Painting, Exploring Color, The Best of American Oil Artists (Vol. II) and Lisa Palombo: American Impressionist. Her work can also be found in select galleries, her own studio gallery and in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S.
While growing up in a rural New England community, I've always felt connected to the natural world. The land, sea, trees, flowers and sky seem to speak to me. Fortunately, my inspiration is endless. Between traveling to scenic places or simply overlooking my studio garden, combined with the various times of day and changing seasons, there is no shortage of beautiful images for me to record. I enjoy painting everything from majestic landscapes and serene seascapes to lush gardens and colorful, floral still lifes.
As for painting and the process,
it is both a challenge and a reward for me. I enjoy letting my
hand interpret what my eye is seeing that day. In a way, my paintings
are a visual diary of my life's journey and experiences. I work
primarily in oil on primed, stretched canvas. I begin blocking
in large areas with luminous color. I then go through a random
series of scrubbing, layering, blending and layering again. I
feel it's important to have a part of each painting "sing"
more loudly than the rest - whether it's the sky, ethereal and
mystical, or a leafless sprig poking around a glorious oak. By
recording these special elements and moments on canvas, I hope
to bring the majesty and spirit of nature indoors.
